Favourite female characters

An recent article about girl heroes in literature made me think of my favourite characters. In no particular order, they are:

Rose Casson. She's direct, creative, funny, and fiercely loyal.

The Penderwick sisters: Rosalind, Skye, Jane, and Batty. They get stuck in trees, fall into ponds, chased by bulls, and win at sports. In other words, they're perfect role models.

Stella. Lively and imaginative. And I love her fiery hair.

Jo March. She was fun and interesting, and a more well-rounded character than her sisters.

Sara Crewe. For her strength in overcoming adversity.

Scarlett O'Hara. You can't help but admire her spirit and determination, even though most of her actions were morally suspect.

Melanie Hamilton. Scarlett despised her, but Melanie was stronger than she looked.
